Board Members Sought at Dearne Valley College

Dearne Valley College is a general further education college which has grown significantly and attracted learners from across the South Yorkshire area and elsewhere. The college has almost 1600 full-time learners and over 2600 part-time learners with an annual turnover of approximately £11m. 

The College Board of Governors is seeking to appoint two new governors as soon as possible to join and assist the Corporation in its strategic planning for the future direction of the college.

Potential members of the Governing Body should be able to offer ‘some’ of the following attributes:

·   an interest in voluntary service to the community

·   a keen interest in the further and higher education sector

·   an understanding of the national context in which further education operates

·   a knowledge of other aspects of education and training provision

·   experience of working in local commerce, industry or public service at board or senior management level

·   active involvement in the work of local community groups

·   specialist expertise such as business planning, human resources management, estates management, finance,  
    marketing or law

As a governor you will be expected to attend Board meetings, usually a minimum of six times during a year combined with development and other opportunities to sit on sub committees.
